Streamlining Diagnosis

Why is this important?

On average, it takes between five and ten years to get an accurate bipolar diagnosis. Because of this delay, many bipolar patients endure years of ineffective treatment, worsening systems, and unnecessary side effects from ineffective medications. Early diagnosis is key to improving the healthcare and well-being of people with bipolar disorder.

What we are doing:

To help people with bipolar disorder get the right diagnosis and treatment as quickly as possible, we are working with care centers to put in place standardized, evidence-based diagnostic tools for use in mental health care, as well as primary care and other community clinics. Using these tools, clinicians can also check their diagnoses to make sure they are accurate.
