Advancing Measurement-Based Care

What is measurement-based care?

Measurement-based care (MBC) is a mental-health practice of using standardized assessments and symptom tracking to guide treatment decisions.

Why is it important?

Although standardized assessments are commonly used in mental health care, they are not consistently used to inform patients’ care. We want to create a more consistent way to track patient progress over time that will be easier for clinicians to use when making treatment decisions.

What we are doing:

We are collecting the Clinical Global Impression Scale for Bipolar Disorder (CGI-BD), a widely used and accepted MBC tool. The CGI-BD is easy for clinicians to use to assess how patients are doing. Member sites are testing different ways to incorporate the CGI-BD into routine care and sharing lessons learned to support implementation across the network.
